The Line, 2023
MDF, Plywood, Metal, Nuts, Bolts, Paint
230 x 180 x 50 cm
"The Line" is one of five sculptures in the "Conflict" project. It consists of sixteen large wooden discs, over one hundred small discs, and a metal support that keeps it standing. The sculpture was created over three months of intensive labor, which involved cutting and shaping wood, as well as designing and experimenting with details using digital AutoCAD.
Located at the center of the show, 'The Line' symbolizes the borders that imperialist powers have historically imposed, separating people and cultures. Its central placement makes it easy for viewers to walk around, while also symbolically breaking down these borders. The traditional motifs on each disc, commonly used in the artist's homeland, which remains divided, are highlighted and add to the sculpture's powerful message.
